The first of two new modular house type families designed on behalf of a private client, this house family is characterised by its bold volumetric form, sculpted with a distinct angular roofscape, wrapped in corrugated white metal cladding and punctuated with large square windows.

The houses are designed in a modular fashion where each module can be pre-fabricated off-site, delivered in accordance with transport limitations, and assembled on site with technical detailing resolved to conceal typical modular joint lines. To maximise the functionality and economic efficiency of each module, internal accommodation is incorporated within the roofscape itself, this resulting in it’s pragmatic, yet characterful, volumetric form.

The houses are designed in either a two-storey or three-storey arrangement allowing the houses to range between accommodating two, three or four bedrooms.

The ground floor is designed as an open-plan, front-to-back communal dining, kitchen and living area, connected to the outdoors via large window openings to front and back, whereas the upper floors are designed to accommodate the private bedrooms and bathrooms.

This transition between communal ground floor living spaces and private upper floor spaces is represented within the contrasting architectural treatment externally, where the more enclosed corrugated metal volumes rest over a lighter, more visually open, timber and glass base.

Connection to the outdoors is maximised at every opportunity where large square windows frame views to front and back.

Corrugated metal clad volumes conceal the private sleep and wash spaces to the upper floors, these resting over a more permeable timber and glazed ground floor facade, enclosing the family kitchen, living and dining spaces.

For maximum efficiency, each module accommodates habitable rooms, this lending itself to a distinct volumetric form where bedrooms are located within the roofscape.

Each house is made up of an assembly of modules, stacked vertically in either a two storey or three storey arrangement.

Internal volumes vary between single height and double height, subject to the housetype and their respective utilisation of each module.

The internal palette comprises soft tones and natural materials, this offering warmth, texture and depth when coupled with natural light, for a calm living experience.

Large square framed picture windows are strategically placed for a continuous connection to the outdoor context.
