Located upon a quaint residential street in Hackney, the clients sought to modernise and expand their Victorian terraced property through extending, reconfiguring and refurbishing throughout.
The 3-bed house benefitted from large voluminous rooms and a lush south facing garden, yet spaces were disconnected from one another with minimal connection to the garden. The project’s primary focus was to address these two critical issues whilst enlarging the house into a 4-bedroom home.
Two newly established ground floor axis’ stretch from front to back, each pulling the internal spaces together in a sequential manner, whilst framing long extended views outwards to the garden. A combined side-infill and rear extension opens up a newly created kitchen / dining space, with a stepped glazed facade, maximising natural light intake and garden views from all angles.
First floor reconfigurations create a master bedroom suite, accompanied with a walk-in wardrobe and en-suite bathroom, whilst retaining space for a built-in laundry pantry, a family bathroom and a second bedroom. A new outrigger roof extension and linked rear roof dormer extension combine to form a newly created second floor to the house, hosting a work-from-home study and a guest bedroom with additional shower room.

Sliding doors balance functionality with aesthetics, allowing for large openings and minimal framing in a soft white tone, minimising visual presence and ultimately maximising the visual connection between inside and out.
Framing extends beyond the ceiling line, exxagerating the open connection to the outside, pulling in natural light and directing views towards the sky
The interior design gently combines traditional and contemporary architecture using soft, delicate tones, natural materials, and crafted textures
The result is a harmonious sequence of spaces that calmly transition from social to private as one moves upwards throughout the house
Large windows and skylights draw in soft natural light, exposing naturalistic tones and articulating gentle, delicate textures
